Walking Improvements
On July 25, 2006, City Council approved a Pedestrian Master Plan. This document provides the City with a comprehensive vision for improving pedestrian conditions to make Sacramento the “Walking Capital.” The plan addresses the needs to provide pathways, crossings, and other pedestrian amenities. Providing these kinds of improvements will result in an increase in walking as a mode of transportation, a decrease in vehicular trips, improved air quality, and improved health and fitness.
To implement the Pedestrian Master Plan, the city has committed to develop a Pedestrian Improvement Program. The majority of the elements in this program are physical improvements such as new sidewalks, sidewalk planters, curbs, gutters and crosswalks.
